"First time properly using Substance Painter - Croix De Guerre 1939, given to brave souls who fought along side the allies during WW2."
This medal seems to come in a few different dates, it was important to specifically capture the look of the 1939-1940 version of the medal.
Looking back on the piece, it really taught me a lot of the fundamentals and allowed some early experimentation with making custom alphas, especially when it comes to controlling height with the level of black and white in the image.
For example, the head within the middle is actually a roman coin head as suggested by a friend. The rest of the details were replicated and this was the result. Unfortunately I no longer have local access to these files or its source files due to a hardware failure, so the Sketchfab upload is the best I can provide.
